It is derived from the Latin word "enneaticus," meaning "nine-fold" or "related to nine." These years were organized in cycles where they followed each other continuously. The term "enneatical" is commonly used to describe the duration of this particular period.
In the ancient Egyptian calendar, each year was comprised of twelve months, and each month consisted of thirty days. However, as the solar year is approximately 365.25 days, the calendar had to be adjusted periodically to account for the discrepancy between the lunar and solar cycles. This adjustment occurred every nine years, known as enneatical years.
During an enneatical year, an extra month, known as "Smw," was added to the calendar, extending the duration of that year to 360 days instead of the regular 360. This ensured that the calendar remained in synchronization with the solar cycle over time.
